Quick Holiday Treat!

Here is a really quick and easy holiday treat.

1 bag small square pretzles (Snyder's)
1 bag Rollo candies, remove the foil
pecan halves, or walnut halves, or (my fav) smoked salted almonds

Preheat oven to 200 degrees. Line cookie sheet with parchment paper and place the pretzles 1/2 inch apart. Top each pretzle with a Rollo candy then place the cookie sheet in the oven until the candy has softened. Remove from oven and top with a nut. Cool and enjoy!

Hello!
Today I made a card using SU! Hologram Highlights for the glitter on the grapes. The image by Priscillastyles http://priscillastyles-store.blogspot.com/ was printed and heat set using a embossing heat gun then the background was sponged with SU! Basic Gray. The image was colored using Prismacolor watercolor pencils & the grapes were covered with SU! Crystal Effects. SU! Hologram Highlights were added by dipping a stiff bristle brush into the HH and running my finger across the bristles to create a "snowing" of the glitter over the grapes. Once the Crystal Effects & HH were completely dry I finished the leaves with more CE. The image was then cut using a Coluzzle & the card was assembled using paper from Reflections and DCWV. A Zig Silver pen and SU! Spray tool were used to mist the background paper with silver. The three background "ribbons" were cut from the paper with black organdy ribbon & Martha Stewart ribbon as the finishing touches. Dragonfly Moon MMSC107

Hello!
This dragonfly is watching the moon rise over this card. The Sentiment reads "HAPPINESS is when what you THINK, what you SAY, and what you DO are in Harmony---Gandhi. Stamp by SU! Happy Harmony.
The cardstock by Reflections with a piece torn to soften the bottom edge of the moon. The inks used for this moon were used in the following order working from the center to the edges. SU! Summer Sun, Marigold Morning, Pumpkin Pie & Jim Holtz Distress Ink Tea Dye & Wild Honey. Each were blended with Jim Holtz blending tool. The black ink by SU! I cased Zindorf's card at: http://zindorf.blogs.splitcoaststampers.com/2010/05/31/ultimate-sac...
The branches, (stamp by Stampendous Foliate quad cube), at the bottom of the moon were placed using the "masking" technique. The masking was done by placing scotch tape over the patterns on the cube that I did not want to stamp, inked the stamp and carefully removed the ink from the tape. The image was stamped using a Stamp-a-ma-jig for proper placement.

Swirl glitter i Copper Penny was used to outline the sentiment, then brushed around the edge of the moon. Today I made this card for several challenges. I hope you will be inspired to join in the fun!
Card was made using SU! stamp sets in Carte Postale, Illuminations, bg in Print Pattern & French Script. SU! ink True Thyme, Jim Holtz ink Tea Dye, SU! EP Gold with Versa Mark pad. Papers of White mulberry that was dyed with JH Tad Dye, cardstock by Reflections (Kraft) and DP by K & CO.
The DP was stamped using bg stamp French Script then the stamp "Cherish" in the Illuminations set was embossed in gold on top. A second Cherish was embossed on scrap cardstock and the "C" and birds from the Carte Postale set were cut out and applied using deminsionals. Three small pearls and a lacy ribbon finished the side. The kraft cs was bg stamped using Print Pattern and True Thyme ink (first stamping was off project so the second stamping would be softened.) The dyed mulberry paper was glued in the lower left corner and along the right side of the card. A small rectangle using dp was added the the left corner then the finished image was placed using demensionals.

I printed the image onto a grocery bag then was cut using a Coluzzle. Cut out a frame and glittered with MS glitter. The cardstock is by Reflections with DP by K & CO. Buckles were added to the ribbon with a few rhinestones.

Today I made a Mother's day card with the basic cardstock by SU! in So Saffron and black. Gold foil paper, printed stationary and transparency papers were also used. The Printed stationary paper was embossed using the Cuttlebug, glittered and the edges burnt. The image by Priscillastyles (http://priscillastyles-store.blogspot.com/)was printed onto transparency paper and glittered. Glitters are by MS in Florentine Gold & Fire Opal then Swirl Glitter in Copper Penny for the background and flower. Mulberry paper flower by Recollections. The pearl by The Paper Studio (sorry, still wet in pic due to time constraints.) Ribbon Trends black organdy ribbon. Ink Holtz ink for distressing the music paper. Once distressed the music paper was crumbled then slightly smoothed. You can click on the card picture for a closer look:)

My card is really very simple to make. I used SU! cardstock for the card and the black background. The floral background is paper by DCWV. For background effect, I glittered only the white flower. The ribbons were made out of strips of paper then covered with gold organdy ribbon. The images were printed as wallet size then antiqued with Tim Holtz ink and colored with Prismacolor watercolor pencils. Coconut Cream Pie with Foolproof Pie Crust

Yesterday I made a wonderful Coconut Cream Pie for Easter so wanted to share my recipe with you.

Foolproof Pie Dough:
Note the Vodka used is essential to the texture of the crust and imparts no flavor. This dough will be moister and more supple than most standard pie doughs and will require more flour to roll out (up to 1/4 C). This recipe is from Cook's Illustrated 2009 cookbook and is simply the best dough I have ever made and worked with. It has become the only pie dough recipe I make. The texture is similar to playdough and is super easy to roll out. This is a great way to get children in the kitchen, allowing them to participate in the cooking process.
Dough:
2 1/2 Cups (12 1/2 oz.) unbleached all-purpose flour, plus extra for rolling
1 teaspoon table salt
2 tablespoons sugar
12 tablespoons (1 1/2 sticks) cold unsalted butter, cut into 1/4-inch slices
1/2 cold vegetable shortening, cut into 4 pieces
1/4 cup cold vodka
1/4 cup cold water

Combine 1 1/2 cups flour, salt, sugar add butter and shortening and "cut" in until dough just starts to collect in uneven clumps. Scrape bowl down then add remaining cup of flour, blending until evenly distributed. Sprinkle vodka and water over mixture and fold into the dough pressing down until it sticks together and is slightly tacky. Divide into 2 even balls and flatten into 4-inch disks, wrapping in plastic wrap and refrigerating at least 45 minutes or up to 2 days. When ready to use roll dough out as usual.
For the Coconut Cream Pie preheat your oven to 450 degrees roll dough for a 9-inch pie pan then press 1 tablespoon toasted coconut into the bottom of the crust, fill with beans or pie beads and bake 10-12 minutes. Cool pie shell before making cream filling.

My version is slightly different
Filling:
1 can (13 1/2 oz) coconut milk, well shaken
1/2 cup plus 2 tablespoons sweetened shredded or flaked coconut, toasted
1 cup whole milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/3 cup sugar

Heat in a 2-quart sauce pan simmer the coconut milk, whole milk, 1/2 cup toasted coconut, vanilla extract, 1/3 cup sugar and salt over medium heat about 5 minutes stirring occasionally with a wooden spoon.

In a seperate bowl whisk together until smooth.
1/3 cup sugar
5 large egg yolks
1/4 cup cornstarch

Gradually beat in some of the hot liquid to temper it, then return the entire yolk mixture into the saucepan. Simmer over medium heat, beating contantly with whisk 5-6 minutes until it has thickened. Transfer to a bowl cover with plastic wrap (press plastic wrap directly on the surface of the filling to prevent a "skin" from forming). Refrigerate until cool. Pour into pie crust, chill until just before serving.
Topping:
1 1/2 cups heavy whipping cream, well chilled
1 1/2 tablespoons sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/4 cup sweetened shredded or flaked coconut, toasted
1 oz. white chocolate, shaved

Using an electric mixer, beat the cream and sugar in a chilled bowl until soft peaks form. Add the vanilla, continue to beat until stiff peaks form. Spread the whipped cream over the pie and sprinkle with the toasted coconut and shaved white chocolate. Store in the refrigerator. Makes 8 servings.

The differences in the Betty Crocker recipe and mine are they add 2 tablespoons butter to the custard filling before cooling. I have dropped these added calories with no loss in flavor or texture to the filling. They use 2 teaspoons dark rum in the whipping cream instead of the vanilla extract, again it is a matter of taste. I personally like a true coconut taste with no added flavors. I will use the picture from the BC website because my pie has been eaten! I hope you will enjoy these recipes.

Today I made a happy little Easter bunny for our MMSC98 sketch challenge. Ballerina Girl MMSC97

Hello!
Today I made a ballerina girl using PriscillaStyles ballerina resting image found at http://priscillastyles-store.blogspot.com/ I printed the image on transparent paper then "flipped" the image. For the sketch I made a box out of paper that I cut then folded (1/2" for inner edge and 1/2" outer edge), cutting out the corners so the bottom (black)paper would show through. The outside of the "box" was lined with textured pink foil paper then filled with tissue paper. The flipped image was glued to DP then placed on top of the tissue paper. A beautiful bow was added with the necklace drapped around the bow. I am not a believer a gift should always hide inside a box so this card presents the gift as the focal point. The paper used was SU! cardstock, transparency, DP by Anna Griffin. I do want to add that the DP behind the box is textured velvet so the card has alot of softness to it. Silver dots were added at the corners to offset the pearl necklace.

The image was heat set then colored with Prismacolor watercolor pencils, cut using Spellbinders and accented with MS sterling glitter glue. Three small hearts were added to the top of the image just under the bow. Various ribbons were combined for the finishing touches. The second card is just like the first only SU! Today I made a March calendar. The paper is from Tracy Porter, K & Co, and SU! I used SU! stamp set Sunflowers (colored with watercolor pencils and blotted with a wet cottenball.) The calendar and Irish Blessing was found free online and printed on SU! cardstock paper, then finished with MS Sliver glitter glue. The butterfly is from Priscillastyles butterfly set of 3 found at her store http://priscillastyles-store.blogspot.com/ then colored with watercolor pencils, blending with Grumtine. Flowers and butterfly were dusted with MS clear fine glitter. MS silver glitter glue and pearls were the finishing touches.

This was a plain white envelope sponged with Moss and True Thyme inks then stamped using SU! Bells and Boughs and the House Mouse stamp "Having a Ball." Envelope was colored with Prismacolor watercolor pencils then glittered with Martha Stewart glitter. "Having a Ball" was cut out and pasted to the envelope. Paper: SU! Black, Whisper White, Pink Piquette, Baja Breeze. Glossy Photo paper, Martha Stewart Camelia Pink, In My Minds Eye embossed/glitter paper and white glitter paper.

Images: Free from http://scrapworkart.bogspot.com/ were printed onto the glossy photo paper and the poem was printed onto white card stock.

Misc. Supplies: Martha Stewart White Gold glitter glue (used to trim the hearts and poem and added as background dots.) Studio G clear glitter glue (used on the angels wings and flowers.) MS Lattice Heart punch for the sides of card. Modern Romance cording tied into 3 love knots. Elite Better Beads Bell caps to finish off the cording. Boutique Fleur Mulberry paper mini roses and Blue Moon metal charms. The inside of the card was finished with pink Offray ribbon.

Soooo I picked a couple and this little House Mouse stamp was perfect. The paper used was SU! Riding Hood Red, Whisper White, Black and Fancy Pants Christmas Magic Bough of Holly.

I colored this image with Copic and SU! Markers. Copic challenge at http://charmedcrafts.blogspot.com/ to win Copic blog candy. Then I used Studio G glitter glue on the moon, stars, hat, and shoes. The paper is SU! Espresso, Pumpkin Pie, Whisper White, Black. I used a cuttlebug embossing folder on the Pumpkin Pie paper and attached it to the card. Then a circle was cut out of the front. Black glitter paper was cut in a larger circle and place on the inside of the card with the cut out image placed on top with a deminsional. The Pumpkin Pie paper was outlined with glitter glue and MS onyx glitter was used as an outline. Then ribbon was added and twisted around the card. Bats were punched using a MS punch, then glittered with onyx and red glitter glue. They were pasted to the ribbon and added to the image. I hope you enjoy this "Little Witch" and join the fun!

Hello!

Today I worked with my first digi. This image came from DigiDrawn Maureen Kuppe. I printed three images, using one for the finished image. To create the quilted look one image had the individual pumpkin sides cut out and then cut again from the different DS paper. The stem and leaf were cut from the third image and again cut from DS paper. All pieces were then glued to the finished image and outlined with a black pen. Using a white pen the stitching was added. All paper is from SU! The only stamp used was from the SU! set Circle of Friendship and Not So Navy ink. Circle punches were from SU! The background was embossed with Cuttlebug Perfectly Paisley in More Mustard, Not So Navy, Garden Green, and Rust. Background paper used was Chocolate Chip and Very Vanilla. Edge was punched with Martha Stewart Ring punches. Ribbon was from SU! in Cranberry Crisp.

Card was made using Flourishes stamp set Doves and Holly.
Paper: SU! DS, Gray, Black and Whisper White.
Ink was craft Whisper White and Basic Gray.
Glitter by Martha Stewart (MS).
Watercolor pencils, grumtine and blender pencils, deminsionals, SU! corner punch, brads, gold cord, and gold ribbon.

October's Party

Hello!
Today I made a card for Stampin B's Challenge #79. I found a wonderful fall peom by George Cooper entitled

"October's Party"
October gave a party;
The leaves by hundreds came-
The chestnuts, Oaks, and Maples,
And leaves of every name.
The Sunshine spread a carpet,
And everything was grand,
Miss Weather led the dancing,
Professor Wind the band.

I thought this peom was perfect for this card so printed it on Whisper White paper then sponged with More Mustard and Cajun Craze inks and matted on black paper. The image was stamped then a vine was hand embossed at the bottom. The image was colored with watercolor pencils then blened with grumtine using blender pencils. I then cut the image and a frame with the Nestabilities Octagons and glittered the frame. Punched the side of the card and added the background papers, finishing with the gold cord.

Paper: SU! in Cajun Craze textured, DS, Very Vanilla, Whisper White, and black. K&CO Tim Coffey Fall Stripe.
Inks: VersaFine, SU! More Mustard, Cajun Craze.
Stamps: SU! Birds from 2000.
Misc: SU! Gold cord, watercolor pencils, Momenta Brass template-vines, Martha Stewart (MS)glitter in Onyx, MS punch-rings, Nestabilities Octagons and a sponge.

I hope you will join us for the fun. Now about my card; I embossed the images in gold onto the transparency film. Using glitter glue and MS glitters I filled in the image to create a stained glass angel window. It was fun but this is not a quick card to do so allow yourself plenty of time and patience. I only wish the camera could capture the beauty of this card.

Trick or Treat MOJO158

This card was made for Mojo Monday challenge week 158 at

I know this is Saturday but it has been the only day for me to stamp. The fence was punched out then sponged with soft suede and then a coat of crackle paint applied to both sides. Once dry the fence was cut at the bottom and turned and glued to the underside of the front flap of card. The underside was then covered with paper and decorated.

Paper by SU! in black, orange, gray and designer series.
Stamps are by SU! Booglie Eyes, Bitty Boos Too, and Penny Black Halloween Night.
Ink by SU! in Soft Suede and black
Misc by MS fence punch and glitter, SU! scallop circle punch and oval punch. Ribbon, dimensions and Ranger Distress crackle paint "picket fence".

This weeks MMSC72 challenge is an oval with accenting flowers. Well... I decided to make the flowers the center of attention. I hope you like my take on this weeks sketch and are inspired to join us at http://priscillastyles.blogspot.com/

My Card: Thanksgiving Blessing
Ink: Crushed Curry re-inker was used to color the doily. Classic pads Really Rust, Cranberry Crisp, and Chocolate Chip.
Paper: SU!scraps and Doily.
Misc: MS Glitter in Golden Beryl, Ribbon, SU! Scallop Circle punch.

To make the flowers punch 3 circles out of each(3)selected cardstock. You will find the thinner papers work well for this. This will make 3 flowers. Left overs are used for flower bud, (bud center scallop is half a circle). Once they have been punched, carefully cut 3 snips with pointed scissors in each scallop, leaving the center uncut and do not over lap your snips. Some snips will be slightly longer than others as you work your way around the circle. Using a sponge carefully antique front and back of circles to add depth of color. Be very careful not to pull while doing this as you do not want to rip the petals. Press the petal in your palm using your finger and carefully manipulate the paper into the desired shape. You can use your finger tip or a bone folder to "tip" the edges back. Then flip the flower over and manipulate into the final petal, squeezing the center to make the flower smaller. Your center piece will be squeezed tight and each layer will be more relaxed as you work your way out from the center. Glue each layer as you go. I used scraps of dark forest green for the center, deep red paper antiqued with chocolate chip ink, orange paper antiqued with cranberry crisp and yellow paper antiqued with really rust. I finished off the flowers with stips of dark green paper curled around a pencil and glued to the under side of each flower. Each flower was then tipped with glitter. The paper under the doily was glittered in a freehand design. Then I added the "Thanksgiving Blessing" as it just seemed to finish the card. Karen has some great flower tutorials on her site at

I hope you enjoy this and try making some flowers with your punches. It is a fun way to use all those paper scraps. This was my first time trying to make my flowers so I just used the punch in the way I thought best.

Today I have a card for the Midnight Madness sketch challenge #71. You can enter at

This card was made using SU! paper, Ink in basic black a Signo white pen and SU! markers. SU! stamps used were Bitty Boos Too and Web Wishes. Embossing powder in White and Dazzling Diamonds with chipboard covered in MS onyx glitter. Other items used were MS glitter in carnelian, ribbon, stud (center of web) and gold wire. This is the first time I have tried working with wire and I must say the hard part was getting the legs glued just right. It felt like I was playing the old game "Operation" as one wrong move and all the pieces moved! Was glad there was no buzzer or I wouldn't have any nerves left! Ha! Ha! I hope you play along with us this was a super fun challenge.

"The Ranch" MMSC11

Here is a "view" of the ranch. I made this card for a co-worker. It was her birthday today and since she has been a big help, I wanted to surprise her. Of course everyone in the office wanted a card but it wasn't their birthday. I used the Midnight Madness Sketch Challenge 11 for inspiration. If you want to play please go to:

Recipe:

Paper: Creamy Carmel, Chocolate Chip, Texture Rawhide, Apple Cider DS, and Very Vanilla.

Ink: Ranger Distress ink Frayed Burlap, Stazon Timber Brown and Versa Mark.

Stamps: SU! Bareback, Sanded BG, & Wonderful Words. Use "Celebrate" inside the card.

Assc: Classy Copper embossing powder, Pumpkin Pie grosgrain ribbon, string, buckle and a candle.

Very vanilla and the DS paper were distressed with frayed burlap. The Very Vanilla was torn. The DS paper was crumpled then burnt using a candle. The textured rawhide was torn. Background stamp "Sanded" was used with Timber Brown on the chocolate chip paper. The inside of the cards was distressed and stamped using the sanded bg. Image was embossed using the classy copper powder. A buckle with distressed grosgrain ribbon and string finished off the card. You can double click the photo for a better look. :)

Ok this card really pushed me out of my comfort zone! But that is the point of challenges--Right?!I've never embellished a card quite like this and it was so much fun. :)These 3 challenges just kinda came together for me and this card was the end result.
